Director Kandy Curran says the short film entries are extraordinary in 2023, with filmmakers from across the Kimberley region telling unique stories and showcasing the region’s iconic landscapes through animation, music, drama-narrative, documentary and comedy.
The short films hlave been judged and the category winners will be announced at the Premiere by emcee Bart Pigram. Speaking of Broome’s talented Pigram family, this year, Ngaire Pigram, whose pronouns are she/they, is a proud queer Wajarri and Yawuru, multi-disciplinary storyteller from Broome, and a new addition to the judging panel, which includes Neil Turner, Manager of Pilbara and Kimberley Aboriginal Media, Paul Bell owner of Feral Films and Mark Jones , who is another profesional filmmaker. The Film Fest will celebrate World Environment Day, Bargana and is a drawcard event in the Broome Fringe Festival.
