SUN PICTURES SPLASHED WITH MUD AND SALTWATER

The Mud and Saltwater Short Film Fest is popular in Broome’s Shinju Matsuri program. Held over two nights at Sun Pictures, the Premiere is on September 13, with September 14, screening the winning entries for 2019 and ‘The Secrets of the Kimberley’. Made by filmmaker Trevor Almeida with photography by Broome’s Peter Strain, the award-winning documentary puts the lens on the fascinating marine life in the oceans and bays along the Kimberley coast.

Sun Pictures, in Broome’s historic Chinatown, is the perfect location to screen the short films made by local filmmakers about Roebuck Bay, Broome and the Kimberley region. With the Kimberley, rugged, scenic and rich in natural and cultural values, there are plenty of fascinating, and at times, hilarious and perilous stories to be relived through film.

The categories include films of varying lengths, drama, documentary, science, comedy, animation and music. Broome is a new category and Kimberley Calling  will amaze,  with films on nesting turtles on the Lacepede Islands, the Fitzroy River, Eighty Mile Beach and Cygnet Bay.

The short films are judged by Paul Bell, Mark Jones, Dr Michael McCall and Neil Turner, with the winners of each category announced at the Premiere September 13, 2019.
