The Mangrove Hotel will roll out the red carpet on June 2, 2023 for a one night screening of the popular Mud and Saltwater Short Film Fest.
A premiere event in the Broome Fringe Festival, the Mangrove Hotel have capacity to seat up to 800 people, who will enjoy a unique ‘under the stars viewing experience’ beside internationally renowned Roebuck Bay.
FILM FREEWAY is open for short film entries in the 2023 Mud and Saltwater Short Film Fest.
Director Kandy Curran says the films will celebrate Roebuck Bay, Broome and the Kimberley region – areas of the high planetary biodiversity, on ‘World Environment Day’.
“The film entries made exclusively for the 2023 Mud and Saltwater Short Film Fest, get better every year, proving local Kimberley filmmakers see great benefit in having their own film fest and opportunities to hone their filmic skills.
“The festival predominantly accepts short films up to 5 minutes, although will show a limited number of films to 15 minutes, and in keeping with the theme, there will be a major award for ‘Best World Environment Day Film’ to promote awareness of the exceptional biodiversity of the region and particularly Roebuck Bay.” Mrs Curran said.
Pia Boyer, Producer of the Mud and Saltwater Short Film Fest, invites filmmakers to submit their short film entries in Film Freeway by May 7, 2023 (deadline). “This year’s categories are Roebuck Bay, Broome and Kimberley WA in the genres of comedy, drama-narrative, documentary, music, animation and science.” Mrs Boyer said.
The short films are judged prior to the Premiere by professional filmmakers and the winners of each category announced on the night by compère Bart Pigram.
The Mud and Saltwater Short Film Fest, an initiative of the award winning Roebuck Bay Working Group, is supported by major sponsors Mangrove Hotel, Rangelands NRM, National Landcare Program, Sobrane Gallery, Cygnet Bay Pearls and Broome Whale Watching.
